Pastor Kevin begins this new series in the Book of Zephaniah with an in-depth review of Israel’s preceding history. We see that God always sends prophets to warn His rebellious people of impending judgment. Sometimes, the king heeded God’s warnings, and the nation experienced revival. Once the godly leader died, however, the people repeatedly fell back into wickedness. Against this historical backdrop, “The word of the Lord which came to Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah” (Zephaniah 1:1 NKJV). Then as now, only when a people truly repent can a nation truly become “great again.”
