Jesus was close friends with Lazarus and his sisters Martha and Mary, who lived near Jerusalem. Surprisingly, none of the gospel accounts name Martha or this Mary as being among the women who went to Jesus’ tomb after his burial. As we look at the account of how about a week before His own death Jesus resurrected Lazarus from the dead, we can surmise why – Martha and Mary had come to fully believe Jesus’ words, “I am the Resurrection and the Life” (John 11:25 NKJV).
On this Resurrection Sunday, as we celebrate the best attested fact of ancient history, Pastor Kevin challenges us to examine our own beliefs about Jesus. May those who have not yet trusted Jesus receive Him today and proclaim with Martha that, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world” (John 11: 27 NKJV)! For those who do believe, may we more and more trust Jesus as the Resurrected Lord and Savior of our lives.
Maranatha!
