The last chapters of 2 Samuel record David’s final words, lists the names and feats of his mighty men, and records how he is moved to take a census of the nation, an action which displeases God. Confronted by Gad the Seer and given his choice of judgments, “And David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Please let us fall into the hand of the Lord, for His mercies are great; but do not let me fall into the hand of man” (2 Samuel 24:14 NKJV). The plague is stopped when David pleads with the Lord and offers sacrifices upon the threshing floor of Araunah. On this Communion Sunday, Pastor Kevin calls us to remember that because of Jesus’ sacrificial death on this same location 1,000 years later, God’s mercy and grace is available for all those who call upon the name of the Lord today.
